After 55 days in court, a Surrey man charged in connection with a brazen daylight shooting that fatally wounded two men and left another with life-threatening injuries has been convicted of two counts of second-degree murder and one of attempted murder.
In a news release, Integrated Homicide Investigation Team Sgt. Freda Fong says the jury's determination – reached Feb. 10 – in the case of Bryce Dallas Campbell "delivers a strong message that the taking of two lives and a disregard for public safety will not be tolerated."
"This took place at a location where young athletes and their families expected to feel safe," Wong continues. "Our thoughts continue to be with the families of the victims as the trial concludes.”
Campbell was charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the July 30, 2022 deaths of 19-year-old Jordan Krishna and 20-year-old Robeen Soreni, who were gunned down at South Surrey Athletic Park.
At 2:45 p.m. that day, police received reports of a shooting at the park – located at 14600 20 Ave. – arrived to find Krishna, Soreni and a third man all suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of the men died at the scene, the second succumbed in hospital. Police at the time believed the men were targeted.
IHIT officials announced days later that the search was on for a single suspect who had fled the scene on foot, and that search warrants had been executed "at residence near the crime scene" in connection with the incident.
Campbell was arrested in August 2022. He was 25 at the time. His trial, initially scheduled for 45 days, took place in B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster.
The conviction carries an automatic life sentence, with no chance of parole for at least 10 years.
