Police are investigating a series of stolen Canada Post mailboxes dumped in Abbotsford and Mission.
Mission RCMP and the Abbotsford Police Department each shared a news release on the weekend about mailboxes stolen from both sides of the bridge.
APD says mailboxes were targeted in the McKee neighbourhood on Saturday (Jan. 11) at 2 a.m.
Police say a “white or light-coloured” Ford truck was seen pulling mailboxes off their foundations, loading them into the bed of the truck, and fleeing the area.
Numerous mailboxes were dumped in northern Abbotsford, while Mission RCMP say a pair of mailboxes from Abbotsford and one from Mission were dumped north of the bridge.
Mounties were notified of two community mailboxes dumped on Draper Street near Cemetery Avenue in Mission on Saturday morning. The detachment says investigators determined the boxes were stolen from Riverside Street in Abbotsford.
Meanwhile, Mission RCMP recovered another mailbox shortly after on Tyler Street which was stolen from Machell Street in west Mission.
“All of the boxes had been pried open and the mail from within had been stolen,” Mission RCMP said.
Mission RCMP is asking residents to check CCTV footage for any suspicious vehicles or activity during the night of Jan. 10-11.
APD says investigators are looking at the Mission files to determine if they relate.
Both APD and Mission RCMP are urging residents to notify police of suspicious activity around community mailboxes. Anyone with missing mail can contact Canada Post at 1-866-607-6301.
