Mission Fire Rescue Service responded to a house fire at Miller Crescent on Wednesday morning (Aug. 14).
First responders were called to the scene just before 8 a.m. with the house fully involved upon arrival. Neighbours looked on as firefighters doused the blaze.
The fire was extinguished by 1 p.m. and an excavator was required to demolish the home.
"We had fire in hidden spaces between that roof line. So we couldn't put firefighters in to put it out, because it's too risky. If they went through the floor or something, it's just not worth the risk ... so we ended up having to demolish the house to put it out," MFRS chief Mark Goddard said.
No one was injured in the incident and the home was insured. MFRS says the house had one permanent resident and two part-time residents.
A van in the house's driveway was also on fire, but MFRS extinguished that blaze as well. MFRS says the neighbouring house suffered damage to its exterior siding but firefighting efforts managed to prevent it from spreading.
Overall, three engines, one ladder, one air truck and 21 firefighters responded to the blaze. BC Emergency Health Services, Mission RCMP, Emergency Support Services and BC Hydro also attended the scene.
