69-year-old passenger dies in crash east of Mission

A 69-year-old woman has died after a crash east of Mission on Wednesday (Jan. 15). 

Mission RCMP said a grey Mitsubishi Outlander collided with a utility pole on Sylvester Road in Durieu at approximately 4:30 p.m. 

First responders extricated the woman, who was the passenger in the vehicle. She was unconscious and suffered serious injuries. Police say the woman died at the scene despite life-saving efforts from first responders. 

The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been released, police say. 

Mission RCMP and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service are still investigating the cause of the crash.  

The detachment says there have been no arrests or charges at this time.
