Abbotsford musicians Calvin Dyck on violin and Carmen Fast Hollett on piano present a concert of the most romantic music for violin and piano on Saturday, Feb. 20.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. at Bakerview Church, 2285 Clearbrook Rd.

The repertoire will range from Beethoven’s Romance in F and Dvorak’s Four Romantic Pieces to Gabe’s Tango Jalousie, the theme song from the movie Ladies in Lavender and music from Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev.

A highlight will be Ralph Vaughan William’s Lark Ascending, which imitates the song of a lark as it circles higher and higher in the sky until it disappears.

While Dyck and Fast Hollett have their graduate degrees from rival schools in Los Angeles, they have been collaborating on concerts for more than 20 years.

Fast Hollett is currently on the faculty at Trinity Western University, and Dyck is in his 16th year as concertmaster for the Vancouver Island Symphony in Nanaimo.

The concert also includes door prizes such as gift certificates and chocolate.

Tickets are available at King’s Music and House of James, or at the door.
