The quintet Ensemble Caprice performs on Oct. 16 at the first concert of the season for the Valley Concert Society.

From classical to Latin, jazz to baroque, the Valley Concert Society’s coming season of performances will bring a variety of musical styles to Abbotsford ears.

Their first concert of the year, held Oct. 16, will be Salsa Baroque, performed by Montreal-based early music quintet Ensemble Caprice, featuring rarely heard Baroque pieces from Latin America.

On Dec. 4, they’ll present A Strad Christmas, where violinist Jasper Wood and pianist David Riley perform classic Christmas tunes with a jazz twist.

On Jan. 30, they’ll present the St. Lawrence String Quartet.

American pianist Thomas Pandofi performs in recital on March 4 and offers a workshop for music teachers and a master class for students.

The Ensemble Vivant quintet from Ontario performs April 1, and the Laudate Singers choir from North Vancouver are on May 7.

All the concerts take place at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Pre-concert talks are held in the lobby at 6:50 p.m. for those wishing to learn more about each program.

The Valley Concert Society is a non-profit group aiming to bring quality music to Abbotsford. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit valleyconcertsociety.com or call 604-289-3377.
