The University of the Fraser Valley’s theatre complex is buzzing with creativity.
From April 24 to 28, the Chilliwack North campus will host the Directors’ Theatre Festival.
Performers from throughout the province will strut their stuff on stage.
This is the 18th annual festival at UFV and the attendance at this popular event has grown tremendously during its evolution from ticket sales of several hundred to a present day figure closer to 4,000.
The festival is a fringe-style event, featuring a cornucopia of one-act plays over a five-day period.
This year’s schedule offers 25 productions, some by established playwrights as well as original plays by student writers.
Directors and performers for this event are theatre students from the UFV theatre program and other post-secondary theatre programs in B.C. Visiting groups this year include UVic, Capilano University, Douglas College, Thompson Rivers University, and UBC Okanagan.
Festival passes are available for all 25 shows for $40, four show packs are $15 and individual show tickets are $5 each.
Performances on Wednesday, April 24 will be presented between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.
On Thursday, April 25 there will be an opening ceremony in the main theatre from 4.30 to 5:30 p.m. then performances from 6.30 to 10:15 p.m.
On Friday, April 26 performances are between 4.30 to 11 p.m., Saturday, April 27 from noon to 10:45 p.m. and Sunday, April 28 from noon to 9:30 p.m.
