The Fraser Valley Symphony (FVS) presents a Winter Wonders concert on Sunday, Jan. 29, featuring the three winners of this year’s Young Artist solo competition.

The concert starts at 3 p.m. at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.

Performing with the symphony will be violinist Kira Gill, playing the finale from Bruch’s Violin Concerto in G Minor; violinist Alina Nicolenco, playing the first movement from Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole; and cellis Benjamin Koo, playing the first movement of Boccherini’s Cello Concerto in B Flat.

Also on the program are Leonore Overture No. 1 from Beethoven’s only opera, Fidelio, and Grieg’s Norwegian Dances suite.

The FVS holds the Young Artist solo competition in alternate years to give up-and-coming Fraser Valley musicians a chance to perform with a symphony orchestra. This year’s winners are all in their teens.

The Fraser Valley Symphony recently received the Platinum award in the Community Votes – Abbotsford theatre category.

Now in its 39th season, the FVS is the premier community orchestra of the region. Lindsay Mellor is conductor.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $18 for seniors and students, and $6 for kids 12 and under. They are available online at fraservalleysymphony.org or at King’s Music in Abbotsford.

Tickets are also sold at the door, if available. Visit the website or call 604-744-9110 for more information.
