An Abbotsford theatre company presents the holiday classic The Gift of the Magi from Dec. 18 to 21.

Theatre Junkies Anonymous, which opened its doors in Abbotsford in 2011, presents the production at the CEP Studio in Sardis.

The heartwarming tale follows Jim and Della Young, penniless newlyweds who wish to buy one another special Christmas gifts.

Directed by local actor Thomas Smith, this production is based on the original story by O. Henry and reminds audiences of the importance of love and selflessness during the Christmas season.

Taking on the roles of the young newlyweds are Dylan Coulter and Megan Mackenzie.

Coulter is a student in the University of the Fraser Valley’s Theatre Program and has recently returned from working as an actor in Barkerville.

Mackenzie, the company’s artistic director, is a graduate of UFV’s Theatre Program and recently directed the successful Five Corners Christmas for Chilliwack Alliance Church.

Other local actors in the ensemble include: Katrina Barson, Melissa Harris, Laura Milette, Megan Ratanasanapong, Dylan Schroeder and Sarah Stewart.

This show is a one-act family-friendly production, running approximately one hour.

The CEP Studio Theatre is located at 45190 Caen Ave. in Sardis.

The show runs at 7:30 p.m., with an additional performance at 2 p.m. on Dec. 21.

Tickets are $10 (including all taxes) and can be purchased in advance through the Chilliwack Cultural Centre box office at 604-391-7469, or at the door with cash only one hour prior to performances.
