The dance performance class at Robert Bateman Secondary hosts a free event called Secret Path: Road to Reconciliation on Friday, Jan. 12.
The evening of dance takes place at 7 p.m. in room J150 at Highstreet shopping centre.
The event was inspired by late The Tragically Hip singer Gord Downie’s legacy project, The Secret Path.
The students will present a dance performance in response to Downie’s collection of songs narrating the story of Chanie Wenjack – a young Aboriginal boy who ran away from residential school in Ontario and never returned home.
The performance also includes keynote speaker Gwen Point, an artist, leader, prominent community member and chancellor of the University of the Fraser Valley.
She will offer insights into the struggles Aboriginal families face in the wake of residential schools, and how we can move forward together towards a positive and healthy future.
