Soprano mother hosts benefit concert

Abbotsford mother has nothing but praise for staff of Yale Secondary School, and to show it she is giving a fundraising solo recital concert

An Abbotsford mother has nothing but praise for the teachers and staff of Yale Secondary School, and to show it she is giving a fundraising solo recital concert, with all proceeds going to the school’s music department. A Dream Come True takes place Sunday, May 27 at 7 p.m. at New Life Church (35270 DeLair Road). Admission is by donation at the door.

Mijeong Kim, an accomplished soprano singer, arrived in Abbotsford in 2005 with her three children, all of whom ended up attending Yale and were members of the concert and jazz bands.

Jina, the youngest, graduates this spring.

“My children’s experiences at Yale were so positive that I wanted to do something to show my gratitude,” she said.

The evening’s program will include a variety of show songs, arias, traditional Korean songs, and German and Italian selections. Kim will be accompanied by pianist Soo hyun Lee. Making a guest appearance is tenor and conductor David C.W. Kim of the Vancouver Korea Singers.
