Easter will be marked this year by Songs, Strings and Steps’ presentation of The Story of Easter on March 28 at 2 and 7 p.m. at Gateway Community Church (2884 Gladys Ave.).

Trinity Western University’s (TWU) 110-voice mass-choir will appear, offering sacred and classical selections from the Easter tradition, and the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra will play.

Alison Nystrom will perform excerpts from Gorecki’s Symphony of Sorrowful Songs, accompanied by the orchestra and illustrated by the Fraser Valley Academy dancers.

The Pilkey Sisters, accompanied by the TWU choir and orchestra will perform Via Dolorosa and violin solos by Calvin Dyck will be featured, including O Magnum Mysterium. There will be original arrangements by Mel Bowker and Roy Tan and staging and visual design by Sylvia Friesen.

Easter will be reflected in repertoire, staging, and decorations, and the simplicity of a single candle, an old rugged cross, and multi-media visuals will enhance the musical depiction of Jesus’ last days on earth, his death and resurrection.

Tickets can be purchased at House of James and King’s Music – $22 for adults and $12 for students.

Parking is limited so carpooling is recommended. For more information contact Calvin Dyck at 604-855-9696 or email at chdyck@shaw.ca.
