Sith Happens part of Star Wars show at the Reach

Abbotsford science fiction fans can enjoy a new art show and a day of activities at the Reach.

The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford is going Star Wars crazy with its Sith Happens @The Reach family event on July 13, from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Pose with Han Solo and Queen Amidala cut-outs, decorate Star Wars cookies with delectable Pam’s Cookies, create Yoda puppets, Princess Leia buns, colour and keep paper piggybanks, watch the Making of Star Wars, have your face painted by Lilac as your favourite Star Wars character, and feel free to arrive dressed in Star Wars duds.

The event begins at 12:30 p.m. with Chilliwack artist Chris Woods of the new Reach exhibition Sandstorm giving a rare behind-the-scenes tour of the exhibition followed by a sketching demo of a live Storm Trooper. The tour and sketch connect into Woods’ exhibit, running July 11 to Sept. 8, which features 14 new paintings based on the original Star Wars trilogy and reinterprets the story through the eyes of Darth Vader.

“With an exceptional Star Wars trilogy-related exhibit by a very talented Fraser Valley artist opening at The Reach this summer, our team got really excited about creating a fun free event that the entire family can enjoy and engage in, not to mention our volunteers,” explains Ingrid Epp, director of development at the Reach.

Admission to Sith Happens is free.
