This work by Abbotsford artist Tracie Stewart will be auctioned live at the Oxygen for the Soul reception on March 17.

A silent auction has begun for artwork that is part of the Oxygen for the Soul program.

The auction is underway at The Reach Gallery Museum (32388 Veterans Way) and Kariton Gallery (2387 Ware St.), featuring a total of 38 pieces divided between the two locations.

The winning bidders do not get to keep the pieces, but their names will be featured, along with the artists, on a recognition plaque when the artwork goes on permanent display at the new Holmberg House hospice.

The facility is slated to open in April on the Dave Lede Campus of Care next to Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

Funds raised from the auction support the work of the Abbotsford Hospice Society (AHS). Tax receipts are issued for the winning bids.

Oxygen for the Soul art exhibits and the silent auction will close to the public on March 13, but final bids will be taken on Thursday, March 17 during the Oxygen for the Soul Reception and Live Auction.

The event takes place at The Reach at 6 p.m., and tickets are $25.

During the reception, local philanthropist Dave Holmberg Sr. will also auction off three other works of art as well as a package designed for culinary aficionados.

The winning bidder of The Art of Gourmet Cooking Package will have chef Marcel Pfeiffer create a decadent dinner for eight in their home.

The live auction will also include one other surprise package.

The reception also features appetizers, live music by pianists Sharon Mitchell and Amy Zhao, and a performance by Vancouver visual artist and soprano Karen Santos.

Tickets are available online at abbotsfordhospice.org, by calling 604-852-2456, or at The Reach, AHS or the Abbotsford Arts Council.
