Some might view it as a strange way to help others, but local entertainer Anida T is using their platform in the drag community to help those seeking refuge because of their sexual identity.
Anida, who is the self-proclaimed "Queen of the Valley" when it comes to the drag scene, is bringing back the popular Tucked and Loaded series, which has regional drag performers put on an interactive show for audiences in Abbotsford.
But this time, the show is being moved to a new location, with the event taking place at Legacy Banquet Hall on Saturday, Jan. 25.
Throughout the night, guests will get to see five drag artists who will do their stage routines, play games with the audience, and join them in dancing to music provided by Abbotsford-based DJ 1EpicNight.
The entire show is expected to take between two and three hours, with a concession and bar open to keep attendees well-fed during the show.
While Anida is clear that the Tucked and Loaded drag show series isn't a charity, it is working to support a B.C. charity, with all of the proceeds from the concession and the 50/50 contest going to Rainbow Refugee.
This is a Vancouver-based group that helps individuals seeking refugee status in Canada due to their sexual orientation, gender identity, or other similar factors.
Anyone wanting to participate in this Jan. 25 event can purchase tickets at https://www.eventbrite.ca/cc/tucked-loaded-2742129 for $30 per person, with only those aged 19 years or older allowed to attend.
