The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford kicks off its 2017 Culture, Coffee and Cookies (C3) educational programs with three off-site tours.
The first tour takes place Wednesday, Jan. 11. Interested participants are invited to meet at 10:30 a.m. at the Kariton Art Gallery, 2387 Ware St.
The Abbotsford Arts Council’s executive director Sophia Suderman will share the history and future of the arts council.
This includes how it was established in 1971 and its role as a crucial resource for local artists while promoting the vision, creativity and energy of the Abbotsford community through the arts.
More than 70 local arts, heritage and culture organizations receive support under the umbrella of the Abbotsford Arts Council, and the talents of hundreds of local artists are showcased at, or through, the Kariton Art Gallery.
The second tour is Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mennonite Heritage Museum, 1818 Clearbrook Rd.
Jennifer Martens will talk about how the Mennonite Museum Society was formed in 2011 and opened its museum in 2016.
This society is focused on engaging present and future generations with the Mennonite story over 500 years through a variety of mediums, and to preserve and document the history of Mennonites who came to B.C. from Russia and Prussia/Poland.
The final tour is on Jan. 25, also at 10:30 a.m., at Trethewey House Heritage Site, 2313 Ware St.
Christina Reid, collections manager at the MSA Museum Society, will lead a tour of the historic Trethewey House, which was designated as a heritage site in 1983, and is now operated by the society.
