Songs Strings and Steps presents pianist Kevin Chen in Abbotsford on Saturday, May 3.
Chen will perform Piano Concerto No. 1 by Frederick Chopin along with a symphony orchestra and the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra. He will also play the virtuosic Réminiscences de Don Juan by Franz Liszt.
Chen, from Calgary, performed his first concerto with the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra in 2013 at the age of 7.
At age 9, he completed his associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music and since then has won five international piano competitions, including the Geneva International Music Competition in 2022.
Chen was named one of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Top 30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians under 30 and one of 100 Remarkable Canadians in Maclean’s magazine when he was under 10 years old.
The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. at Central Heights Church, 1661 McCallum Rd.
