The work of Pat Schendel will be part of an exhibition at the Kariton Art Gallery.

A triple-artist exhibition will feature mixed-media painter and photographer Cristal Sawatzky, and crystalline potters Pat Schendel and Brandon Martin at the Kariton Art Gallery (2387 Ware St.)

The show will run from May 16 to June 9, with the opening reception and artist meet-and-greet on May 16, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Sawatzky considers this series of work a development of her love of photography, contemporary art and vintage details. Using found materials and mixed mediums, she paints and texturizes her surfaces giving them their own sense of history.

Schendel was born and raised in Abbotsford, moving to Kamloops for her nursing education. It was during an adult education class in 1975 that she became interested in clay. She dabbled in it throughout her career and married life, but her formal education in ceramics came much later in 1992 under Kwantlen College instructor David Lloyd. Her current work reflects the oceans and lava pools of the Pacific.

Martin has always loved experimenting, exploring and creating beautiful works of art. Currently under the skilled guidance of his mentor Schendel, his pottery, much like Schendel’s, will be created using a special glaze and crystalline technique. He was previously featured in the 2011 Fraser Valley Regional Biennale.
