Three young, energetic Canadian bands are coming to the Clarke Theatre next Thursday, Feb. 9.
In the six years since their formation, the Montreal-based New Cities has racked up an array of accolades, including a Juno Award nomination for Best New Group Of The Year (2010).
Touring on their second album, Kill the Lights, they’re following up on the success of their 2006, self-titled EP and their 2009 album debut, Lost in City Lights.
The six-member New Cities boy band describe themselves as a mélange of electro, rock and pop that on most days could be best characterized as either synth-pop-rock or simply pop-rock.
Opening for New Cities is a similar up-and-coming Canadian band called Take Me To The Pilot, named after an Elton John song written for the British rocker’s eponymous second album in 1970.
Initially just the working title for guitarist/vocalist Mike Bilenki’s solo acoustic effort in early 2009, TMTTP blossomed with the additions of guitarist Eric Grabowecky, bassist Adam Brown and drummer Jon Stanners.
TMTTP has toured and opened for a number of young emergent Canadian pop groups like Neverest, Alyssa Reid, and Stereos.
Rounding out the show is a special guest appearance from Vancouver’s Cruel Young Heart band, featuring musical stylings with thick drums and catchy lyrics blended with smooth dance.
Formed in February 2010, Cruel Young Heart is a three-piece band comprised of brothers James Blackmon on vocals and Andrew Blackmon on drums, with Mark Armstrong on guitar.
Tickets to see all three perform are $20 through Ticketmaster locations. Doors to the Clarke open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 6.
