At the invitation of Sevenoaks Shopping Centre, the Emerge at The Reach program has created a colourful collaborative public art project at Sevenoaks.

This work of art is a combination of styles by young Emerge artists Alisha Deddens, Julie Epp, Alisha Sandhu and Reece Wood under the mentorship of Kate Bradford, assistant curator at The Reach.

The piece, titled #AbbotsfordArtMatters, is located near the food court, and is designed “to encourage those who aren't actively engaged in the art world to enjoy art outside of a gallery setting,” Deddens said.

“We knew that adding something visual would be of great appeal to the customers and draw interest for The Reach Gallery Museum,” said Tricia Dumouchel, Sevenoaks marketing director.

Shoppers are invited to take a selfie with the work and post it to social media sites with the hashtag #AbbotsfordArtMatters.

A smaller interactive project that mimics the style of the larger art piece, is located in the foyer of The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford (32388 Veterans Way), where the public is encouraged to add a little colour.
