Five Abbotsford kids competed in the semi-finals of the PNE Star Showdown last weekend for a chance to advance to the finals.

Erin Howard (in photo below), 12, sang Suds in the Bucket in the kids’ division, while singer Nicole Sumerlyn, 16, competed in the youth division.

Black Widow (in photo at left) – an acro trio consisting of 14-year-old Jillian Haima, Kayla Kiebe and Austyn Lamont – competed with a dance performance.

They were among 30 acts vying to be named as one of three finalists  in each category – kids, youth and adult.

The finals were held on Wednesday afternoon, with first-, second- and third-place prizes of $1,000, $2,000 and $5,000 up for grabs.

None of the Abbotsford participants advanced to the finals.

The PNE Star Showdown is a province-wide talent search showcasing singers, dancers and musicians.
