Award-winning jazz violinist Trevor Dick is coming to Abbotsford on Friday as part of a tour through B.C.
For Dick, the themes of “glory” and “peace” have become the centerpiece of both his two-CD Christmas set Glory & Peace and his Christmas concerts.
“I had the idea from the verse ‘glory to God in the highest and on the earth peace, good will towards all men and women who diligently serve Him,’ to do an album that’s not just high energy like I normally do, but something that could also portray the quiet side of Christmas,” said Dick, a self-proclaimed music missionary.
Dick was born in Nigeria to missionary parents. When his father tragically died in a car accident, his mother moved the young family to Nanaimo where Dick benefitted from the music-soaked city’s atmosphere.
At 15 he toured with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and later went on to study at the University of Toronto.
Primarily a solo artist, Dick has also performed and toured with Robin Mark, Carolyn Arends, Amanda Falk and Geoff Moore.
The Glory & Peace concerts give Dick a chance to show his versatility as a performer, arranger and composer.
Songs exploring the Glory theme, include Carol of the Bell, Tidings (of Comfort and Joy), Sojourn of the Kings and his own title composition Glory.
On the Peace side, the soft, relaxing acoustic violin sounds include classics such as Silent Night, In the Bleak Midwinter, Coventry Carol (The Lament) and, the title piece Peace penned by Dick and keyboard player Brad Toews.
Dick will be travelling with his full band, which comprises Toews, Rob Brown (drums), Tony Lind (guitar) and Will Jarvis (bass).

The Abbotsford concert takes place on Friday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Sevenoaks Alliance Church, 2575 Gladwin Road, Abbotsford.
