International music at Mission Folk Festival

The 24th annual Mission Folk Festival will feature a mix of eclectic music from around the world.

The 24th annual Mission Folk Festival will feature a mix of eclectic music from around the world.

The event, which takes place from July 21-24 at Fraser River Heritage Park, 7494 Mary St, has announced its 2011 line-up.

Groups will be performing from Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Denmark and Belgium.

The festival will also feature music from Mongolia and Spain, as well as from across Canada and the U.S.

With a focus on traditional and new music, there’s Celtic tunes, singer-songwriters, Louisiana lilt and banjos.

Blues will also be featured with The Church of the Blues in partnership with the Historic Dewdney Pub. It will showcase 25 blues players from Mission, Abbotsford and across the Lower Mainland.

The lineup also includes Canadian Patrick Ball, Robert Sarazin Blake from the U.S., Mari Boine from Norway, Jim Byrnes from B.C., Caladh Nua from Ireland, Griff from Belgium, Harald Haugaard and Helene Blum Quartet from Denmark, and Namgar from Mongolia/Siberia, to name a few.

The weekend passes range from $85-$50. Prices increase on July 1.
