Holiday cheer will be coming to Harrison starting Nov. 23 this year.

The second-annual Lights by the Lake will be gearing up to illuminate the Harrison lakefront for the winter. The one-kilometre trail of lights will showcase the area’s Sasquatch heritage — with visions of the hairy biped participating in quintessentially Harrison activities, including hiking, biking and paddling — as well as local wildlife.

Last year, the inaugural Lights by the Lake display saw more than 1,000 people come out to Harrison for the opening night.

(Some were under the mistaken idea that Tourism Harrison’s project would turn Harrison into a literal Whoville; like last year, Whoville is not part of the decor plans.)

This year’s opening ceremonies will take place on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Free hot chocolate will be available for attendees — although only one per person — and the lights will be illuminated at 5:30 p.m.

The Lights by the Lake opening will see the unveiling of Harrison’s new outdoor skating rink.

Although the official grand opening has yet to be announced, the synthetic outdoor rink is set to be installed in the boat launch parking lot for the opening of the light display.

The rink will be free and open daily, with a small charge for skate rentals.

Lights by the Lake will be open from Nov. 23 to Jan. 12. Lights along the promenade will be lit each night at dusk, and turned off by 11 p.m.
