Fraser Valley Symphony presents Echoes Across Time in Abbotsford

Violinist Karl Stobbe is the featured soloist on June 8 at a concert presented by the Fraser Valley Symphony.

The Fraser Valley Symphony (FVS) presents its final concert of the 2024-25 season on Sunday, June 8.

Echoes Across Time, featuring violinist Karl Stobbe and guest conductor Joel Stobbe, starts at 3 p.m. at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way.

Karl will perform Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major. Also on the program is Symphony No. 2 by Alexander Borodin.     

Karl is recognized as one of Canada’s most accomplished and diverse violinists, noted for his generous rich sound and long poignant phrasing.  

As an orchestra director, concertmaster, soloist and chamber musician, he has been an audience favourite in small and large venues.

He has performed in North America’s most famous concert halls, including New York’s Carnegie Hall and Boston’s Jordan Hall.

Joel Stobbe is a distinguished cellist and conductor. He earned an artistic diploma of music performance from the Augsburg Conservatory of Music in Germany, performing across Europe from 2006 to 2014. 

He has also been a featured soloist with the Fraser Valley Symphony and was principal cellist of the Vancouver Island Symphony.

Currently, Joel teaches at the Langley Community Music School. He also adjudicates and teaches master classes.

Founded in 1984, the FVS is composed of musicians from Abbotsford and surrounding communities. Lindsay Mellor is the conductor/music director.  

Doors for the concert open at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 general, $18 for students and seniors, and $6 for children. They can be purchased at King's Music in Abbotsford, online at fraservalleysymphony.org or at the door if available.
