Creative Edge School of Arts, the Fraser Valley’s largest performing arts school, is moving their annual musical theatre production to the Abbotsford Arts Centre this year.

The long-standing school has been producing musicals at the Clarke Theatre in Mission for the past 10 years.

This year’s production of The SpongeBob Musical takes place March 8 and 9 at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) at the arts centre, 2329 Crescent Way.

The production features actors aged 14 to 18, many of whom have been with the program since the beginning.

Artistic director Andrew Gillott said the school is trying to build more of a community audience base with the move to Abbotsford.

“In the past, we have relied solely on parents and families to fill our audience, but with the change of venue we are hoping to build more of a community following,” he said.

“Our students have come so far over the past few years, and they want to share their talents with everyone.”

Gillott said the Creative Edge motto for the last 30 years has been “building self-esteem through the arts.”

“Giving these students the best performance experiences we can, and helping to grow their self-esteem is the most important thing for me,” he said. “These young actors have found a second home at our studio and they are excited to bring their passion for musical theatre to the Abbotsford stage.”

Tickets are $28 for adults and $18 for children and can be purchased online at creativeedgebc.com
