A concert with Abbotsford violinist Calvin Dyck and special guests takes place Sunday, Feb. 24 at South Abbotsford Church (32424 Huntingdon Rd.).

The performance begins at 3 p.m.

Featured with Dyck – the conductor and director of the Songs Strings and Steps concert series – are violinist Deniz Tahberer, pianist Ammiel Bushakevitz, and mezzo soprano Sarah Thery.

The concert will feature music by Bach, Bizel and Franck.

Tahberer will play a violin made in the Fraser Valley by Hermann Janzen, who has become famous around the world for his instruments.

Tabherer, born in Turkey, is the winner of many competitions and scholarships, including first prize in the Michelangelo Abbado Violin Competition in Milan.

Bushakevitz was born in Jerusalem and debuted with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 16. He is an active musicologist and specializes in researching Frank Schubert and Richard Wagner.

Tahberer and Bushakevitz together form the Aurelius Duo, which won first prize in the International Duo Competition in 2012.

Thery, from France, regularly performs on opera stages, at festivals and in recitals throughout Europe. She recently formed a close collaboration with Aurelius Duo to present concerts like the one in Abbotsford.

Tickets for the event are $20 general and $10 for students. They are available at the door.
