Bakerview Music Academy holds fundraising concert

The event on Saturday, June 15 features several musicians.

The Bakerview Music Academy is hosting a benefit concert on Saturday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Bakerview Church (2285 Clearbrook Rd.).

Admission is $20 at the door and money raised goes toward the academy’s program, which offers free music lessons to disadvantaged children and youth in Abbotsford.

The concert features several musicians, including Calvin Dyck, Mel Bowker, Lorin Friesen, Stan Gubiotti, Johannes Weber, Paul Williamson and the Sweeney Singers.

The local academy was inspired by St. James Music Academy, working out of Vancouver. That group is now in its seventh season and has approximately 125 children coming to the academy every day.

The local group is starting the same program with the vision to expand from two days a week to five days.
