A new exhibit titled Epilepsy in Full Colour: Beyond Diagnosis opens April 5 at Kariton Art Gallery.

An art exhibit that celebrates the resilience, creativity and unique perspectives of individuals who are affected by epilepsy opens in Abbotsford on Saturday, April 5.

Epilepsy in Full Colour: Beyond Diagnosis runs until April 26 at Kariton Gallery, 2387 Ware St.

The show is presented by the Centre for Epilepsy and Seizure Education in British Columbia (ESEBC), the Kariton Art Gallery and the Abbotsford Arts Council.

The artwork in Epilepsy in Full Colour: Beyond Diagnosis, spans a variety of mediums – from painting to digital art and mixed media – and challenges the conventional narrative surrounding epilepsy, moving past the stigma and medical focus to explore the rich, diverse ways that those living with the condition engage with the world through art.

ESEBC president Ted Downey said each piece in the show is "a testament to the inner strength, creativity, and profound individuality of its creator, making a bold statement that epilepsy does not define or limit the potential for artistic expression."

"By showcasing the artistic experiences of British Columbians affected by epilepsy, we hope to challenge misconceptions and inspire dialogue about the lived experiences of those impacted by this condition," he said.

"This exhibition is a celebration of the power of art to transcend medical labels and provide an authentic, personal expression of the human spirit."

The free opening reception runs from noon to 2 p.m. on April 5, and guests will have the opportunity to meet artists, engage with their works, and participate in conversations about the lived realities of those affected by epilepsy.

Gallery hours are Thursday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
