Adam Klassen is the next performer in the Envision Financial Coffee House Series on Saturday

The Envision Financial Coffee House Concert Series presents Adam Klassen on Saturday, Sept. 27 at SippChai Cafe (31205 Maclure Rd.) from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Klassen got his musical start the same way many '90s kids did: playing in a punk band in high school.

He had taken piano lessons as a kid and dabbled with saxophone in grade school, but playing distorted power chords with friends in his basement and any venue that would let them was the catalyst for what formed the passion that would shape his life.

The songs weren’t always good, but they were always original, and that relentless songwriting eventually led to a few good songs and a spot on stage at the PNE in a B.C.-wide battle of the bands.

They didn’t win, but it was fun and drove them to be better.

Klassen began writing songs that were heavily influenced by classic folk musicians – Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, as well as Indie folk like Dashboard Confessional, The New Amsterdams and early Pedro the Lion.

This concert is the seventh performance where concert goers are invited to take part in Envision Financial’s Full Cupboard program by bringing along a donation of cash or non-perishable food for the Abbotsford Food Bank.

The concert is also presented by the Abbotsford Arts Council as part of Culture Days, a three-day annual nation-wide celebration providing Canadians with opportunities to participate in, and appreciate, all forms of arts and culture.
