An Abbotsford musician is one of seven recipients across Canada of a $5,000 MusiCounts Accelerate Scholarship.
Darius Crump is a student of Nimbus School of Recording and Media in Vancouver.
The MusiCounts Accelerate Scholarship aims to advance the careers of aspiring music professionals who are nearing the completion of their post-secondary studies in music and music business.
Scholarship recipients are nominated by their post-secondary institution and each receive a $5,000 financial award and an intensive mentorship experience to develop their skills and help them kickstart a career in the music industry.
The 2022 MusiCounts Accelerate Scholarship virtual workshops and networking experiences cover areas such as entertainment law, PR and marketing, the role of record labels, music publishing, touring, and more.
Crump (aka “girly”) is a multiracial indie artist and performer. He takes from many different inspirations to create a unique, refreshing and adventurous sound.
His musical journey began at a young age, performing in both his middle school’s band and chapel team, but his true passion for making music came along a few years later when he got the chance to observe a friend and artist during a recording session.
Crump started writing songs that same night, and he hasn’t put the pen down since.
A collaborator, artist and producer, Crump loves to work with other artists to create unique and ear-catching instrumental and writing lyrics.
In 2021, he decided that he wanted to strengthen his musical abilities and knowledge further and found Nimbus School of Recording and Media. He attended the January 2022 artist development program and recently released his debut album, Boyish.
