The pair participate in the Performing Arts BC festival this week in Powell River

Two Abbotsford dancers are among those competing this week in the Performing Arts BC Festival competition in Powell River.

Emileigh Gessner and Mackenzie Penner, who both train at Freestyle Dance Centre, have been chosen as provincial dance representatives for the competition, which began May 26 and runs until Sunday, May 31.

Gessner has been selected as the senior jazz/stage representative, while Penner has been chosen as the intermediate modern representative.

Penner will also spend her summer in San Francisco, where she was accepted into the Joffrey dance program, for which she received a partial scholarship.

In addition to dance, the Performing Arts BC Festival includes music and speech competitions.
