To celebrate the 100 year birthday of local poet and teacher, Thurlow Gowan, the Poets Potpourri Society will be hosting a poetry reading at the Clearbrook Library to launch his newly published book, Picking Flowers.

Published by the MSA Poets Potpourri Society (PPS), Picking Flowers contains the collected poems of Gowan, along with some tributes and poetry by members of the PPS.

The book also includes his life story from his Saskatchewan boyhood to his many years as a school teacher in Flin Flon, Manitoba, before he moved to Abbotsford in 1979 and continued teaching here, where he became known as "the Cascade Poet."

He has been a member of the PPS for more than 28 years, and aside from being published in various anthologies, this is Gowan's first book.

This book launch celebration takes place Oct. 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Clearbrook Library, 32320 George Ferguson Way, Abbotsford. Admission is free and  everyone is welcome.
