Workshops at The Reach will help preserve family memories

One workshop focuses on caring for family photos, the other on sharing family histories

As part of its Living History Series, The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford will present two workshops of interest to seniors and family memory-keepers.

The first takes place May 21 and is called Caring for and Digitizing Family Photos.

During the workshop, the Reach’s collections manager, Kris Foulds, will provide quick and easy tips to help you extend the life of your cherished family photos and show you how easy it is to transfer photographic prints to digital media for easy storage, sharing and reproduction. Foulds has been working in museums for over 25 years and has extensive experience in caring for heritage treasures.

The second workshop is called Writing Your Own Life Story and takes place on June 4.

Historian and genealogist Bill Overy will share his wealth of experience in researching and recording family history. Through his hobby of publishing his own books, including family history research and stories, travels, children’s stories including a Children’s History of Canada, and poems, Overy has gained valuable knowledge to share on how best to economically publish your story.

The workshops are free but pre-registration is required. Workshops will be held on Tuesday afternoons from 1:30 to 3 p.m. with refreshments and opportunity for questions and answers after the session.

Contact Kris Foulds, kfoulds@thereach.ca or 604-864-8087 (ext. 112) for more information or to pre-register.
