The annual Walkathon for Abilitas takes place this Saturday, Sept. 20 at Mill Lake Park in Abbotsford.

The event raises funds and awareness for the Cold Water Ranch Respite Lodge – B.C.’s first accessible respite lodge for children, adults, and families living with disabilities.

Cold Water Ranch, located in Merritt, has been in operation since October 2013, providing opportunities for families to rest, recharge and re-connect at no cost.

Check-in and registration for the walkathon is from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Bevan Avenue entrance to Mill Lake Park.

The walkathon will run until 2 p.m. Participants can walk up to 10 kilometres.

Water will be available, and refreshments and hot dogs will be served at the finish line.

All proceeds benefit the second phase of construction.

Since the lodge opened, it has hosted 55 different families and has received 88 applications.

The lodge is funded through the Abbotsford-based Abilitas Foundation. To register for the walkathon or for more information, visit abilitasfoundation.org.
