Participants in the recent Inside Ride event at W. J. Mouat Secondary raised more than $11,000 for kids with cancer.
The event, held May 4, was headed by the school’s Kiwanis Key Club and senior leadership teams.
The challenge involved teams of six riders, who had to raise a minimum $300, taking turns riding a stationary bike for 10 minutes.
The event attracted a total of 26 teams – up from six teams last year.
The teams who took part included Quirky Quadratics, The Untragically Hip, Tacky Tourists, and May the Fourth Be With You.
Mouat teacher Shelly Sharma was top individual fundraiser of the event, raising $400.
The Inside Ride events precede the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride, which takes place in September.
Bob Ahuja of Abbotsford is among the 18 riders who will cycle from Vancouver to Halifax, riding between 150 and 220 kilometres per day.
To participate, each rider must raise a minimum $15,000, which goes to the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation.
