The Volunteer Cancer Drivers Society is currently looking for volunteer drivers in the Abbotsford-Mission area.

The society was formed in early 2016 to replace a service previously operated by the Canadian Cancer Society.

Volunteer drivers pick up patients at their homes and take them to treatment at cancer clinics in Abbotsford, Surrey and Vancouver.

Society vice president George Garrett said while the society has well over 100 volunteer drivers, there is an urgent need for more drivers, particularly in the Abbotsford area. Volunteer drivers are reimbursed for mileage at 41 cents per kilometre, but Garrett said the greatest reward is the satisfaction of helping people who need this essential service.
