Abbotsford is among cities across the province and in six countries hosting a vigil on Saturday, April 23 to remember the 100 sled dogs slaughtered in Whistler a year ago.

The event takes place in Abbotsford from 2 to 4 p.m. at Mill Lake Park at the south entrance (off Bevan/Primrose).

The local vigil will be led by Jeneane Ruscheinsky.

“People are outraged and saddened by the tragic events of April 2010 when 100 sled dogs were slaughtered by Outdoor Adventures Whistler, BC.

“We are angry and want justice for the Whistler 100 and all other animals that suffer or are murdered at the hand of man without lawful excuse,” she said.

A petition will be on hand at the event in support of Bill C-229 to create stronger animal cruelty laws. The goal in Canada is one million signatures.
