The Abbotsford Sunflower Festival at Maan Farms is now open and comes complete with a rainbow representing the LGBTQ2s+ community and Black, Indigenous and people of colour.

The Valley Rainbow was installed last week as part of the festival’s regular offerings.

“During sunflower season, it will stand in the field, bringing light to Indigenous invisibility, anti-blackness, transphobia, homophobia, and all racial and sexual orientation injustices,” said Amir Maan, operations manager and farmer.

“Our embrace is intersectional, supporting equal treatment and rights for everyone.”

Maan said their land acknowledgement respects the shared traditional ancestral territory of the Sumas (Sema:th) First Nation and Matsqui First Nations.

The festival runs until Sept. 13 at Maan Farms, 790 McKenzie Rd., and includes access to the sunflower field, petting barn, corn maze and Barnyard Adventureland (includes a zip line, jumping pillow, giant play fort, and tire crawl).

A Picnic in the Petals experience is also available.
