UFV awards honorary degrees to trio

Ray Silver Sr. of Abbotsford is among those who will receive honorary doctorate degrees.

Three people who have made significant contributions in their fields will receive honorary doctorate degrees from the University of the Fraser Valley at convocation ceremonies on June 14 and 15.

Sto:lo leader Ray Silver Sr., rock and roll pioneer DJ Red Robinson, and former NHL hockey player and crusader for childhood sexual abuse victims Sheldon Kennedy will be recognized with honorary degrees.

Silver will receive his doctor of laws degree at the 2:30 p.m. ceremony on June 14.Robinson will be honoured with a doctor of letters degree at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony on June 15. Kennedy will be recognized with a doctor of laws in the ceremony at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

UFV convocation ceremonies will be held at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre, adjacent to the UFV campus at 33800 King Rd. in Abbotsford. All ceremonies are free and open to the public, and will also feature the procession of UFV graduates for 2012.
