Trivia buffs from across the Fraser Valley recently raised more than $1,900 for literacy and learning programs in Abbotsford.

More than 90 people participated in the second annual Literacy Matters Abbotsford Team Trivia Challenge in support of programs designed to help children and adults gain valuable literacy skills so they can succeed at home, at school and work, and in the community.

“This year’s event surpassed our expectations, and the money we raised will go a long way to support community-based literacy programming in this community – programs that are desperately needed by children and families, adults and seniors who struggle with literacy and learning,” said Sharon Crowley, organizer and literacy outreach coordinator for the region.

Literacy Matters Abbotsford mobilizes, integrates and supports activities that enhance literacy and learning in the community.

The organization has been around since 2008 and is part of a literacy community that consists of over 100 literacy outreach groups across B.C.
