Thrifty Foods kicks off fundraiser

The Orange You Glad You Helped a Kid event helps children across B.C., including Abbotsford.

Thrifty Foods General Manager Jim Dores, Olympic gold medalist Brian Price and KidSport representatives, along with a group of local elementary school visitors, were on hand in Victoria to kick off the “Orange You Glad You Helped a Kid” fundraiser, benefiting local KidSport Canada chapters in communities served by Thrifty Foods stores, including Abbotsford.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to improve the quality of life in our communities, the in-store campaign will help hundreds of children join organized sport activities like soccer, hockey and karate in the next year,” said Dores.

“With a goal to send as many kids as possible into a season of sport, for the next three weeks Thrifty Foods will donate $1 from the sale of every four-pound bag of certified organic Buck Brand navel oranges to a dozen KidSport chapters in B.C.”

From February 13 to March 5, all donations will go to KidSport BC and to local chapters including KidSport Abbotsford, KidSport New West, KidSport Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows, KidSport Delta, KidSport Tri-Cities, KidSport North Shore, KidSport Surrey-White Rock, KidSport Greater Victoria, KidSport Cowichan, KidSport Nanaimo and KidSport Comox Valley – enabling hundreds of young people without the financial means to access organized sport in their communities.

“Providing disadvantaged youth with a season of sport does more than just improve their fitness and strength,” says Pete Quevillon, KidSport BC Director.

“Skills including leadership, decision making, critical thinking, hard work, dedication, and self confidence are part of the benefit each child receives and this is what makes the total experience of access to organized sport so impactful.”

Thrifty Foods has been proudly supporting KidSport Canada through its Greater Victoria chapter since 2002.
