Three Abbotsford agencies receive $15,000 in grants

The funding has been announced by Coast Capital Savings.

Three Abbotsford organizations are among 20 groups that have received grants from Coast Capital Savings’ Young Leaders Community Councils.

A total of $211,000 in grants was recently awarded across B.C. to groups that help more than 15,000 children and youth.

Among the Abbotsford groups receiving funds was the Banking on Youth project run by United Way of the Fraser Valley and Vibrant Abbotsford.

A total of $15,000 was provided to the project, which helps youth learn about banking systems, credit and money management.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fraser Valley was awarded $7,500 for its teen mentoring program, which enlists youth in Grades 10 to 12 as mentors to children in neighbouring elementary or middle schools.

West Abbotsford Community School Society received $10,000 for its Pre-Teen Extreme program, which offers educational and recreational activities to pre-teens.

In August, Coast Capital will begin considering community investment grant applications for the fourth quarter of 2013.

The deadline to submit applications is Aug. 23. For details, click here.
