More than 300 volunteers in Abbotsford and Mission helped make the recent BC Thanksgiving Food Drive (BCTFD) a success in their communities.
Throughout the province, the drive collected an estimated 402,000 pounds of food for 50 local food banks.
The event involved flyers and donation bags being dropped off in neighbourhoods, with a request for residents to fill the bags with non-perishable food items and leave them on their doorsteps for pickup on Saturday, Sept. 21.
In Abbotsford, the BCTFD event included more than 270 volunteers providing over 450 hours of service to the community.
They visited some 10,200 homes, and collected more than 14,200 pounds of non-perishable food for the Abbotsford Food Bank.
In Mission, the event included more than 60 volunteers providing over 150 hours of service to the community.
They visited about 5,500 homes, collecting more than 7,900 pounds of food for the Mission Food Bank at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Abbotsford Food Bank executive director Dave Murray and his Mission Food Bank counterpart John Poston said the agencies appreciate the much-needed contributions.
