The author of Baba's Kitchen: Ukrainian Soul Food will be the Rotary Club of Abbotsford's guest speaker at the July 15 luncheon.
Raisa Stone's book is collection of stories from Soviet and Nazi survivors, including her own family. The book also delves into the rich and complex history of Ukraine's Indigenous people, who have been on the land 44,000 years.
Then there's the true murder confession of Stone's neighbour, who endured years of beatings but got her own back with soup and vodka. As she was in her eighties when she told Raisa, she kept her secret till after her death.
Stone is a seasoned storyteller and narrator who has performed for The Shadbolt Centre, the Organic Islands Festival and Victoria's Puente Theatre, and voiced a special for Bravo TV.
