Animal lovers will get a chance to show their love for abused and injured animals next month.

The 2014 Scotiabank & BC SPCA Paws for a Cause walk will give people the opportunity to fight animal cruelty and raise money for abused, injured, neglected and homeless animals.

In Abbotsford, one of 31 communities taking part in the fundraiser, the walk will take place Sept. 7 at Mill Lake Park. Registration starts at 9 a.m., with the walk starting at 10 a.m. Proceeds will go toward the Abbotsford SPCA.

The event brings animal lovers and their furry friends from all walks of life together for a great time as well as a fantastic cause. Participants can enjoy a variety of entertainment and fun activities, including a bowl-licking contest, community vendors, a barbecue, and fabulous fundraising prizes for people and their pets.

“This is the largest single event to help fight animal cruelty in British Columbia,” said Krista Constantineau, manager of fundraising events at the BC SPCA. “We are overwhelmed by the amazing participation each year – it’s so great to see thousands of people come together across the province to help B.C.’s most vulnerable animals. Our supporters not only raise essential funds, the events are so much fun for two-legged and four-legged participants.”
