Board members and volunteers of the Smiles Through Seva Foundation gather at the group's annual gala on Sept. 28 in Abbotsford.

The second annual Smiles Through Seva Foundation Gala on Sept. 28 raised $70,000 for the Archway Starfish program.

The program provides packs of food for more than 700 students every school weekend.

“We’re amazed by the generosity shown by the event organizers, sponsors and attendees,” said Rebecca Thuro, Archway food security manager. “These funds will ensure 100 children and teenagers will receive food over the weekend all school year.”

The 600 attendees enjoyed speeches and entertainment before hitting the dance floor at the Oscars-themed celebration hosted at the Abbotsford Ag-Rec Building.

Speakers included representatives from the Smiles Through Seva Foundation, Archway and sponsor Wealth Builder University.

The Smiles Through Seva Foundation began in 2023, and members engage in community outreach, volunteer efforts, and initiatives aimed at local empowerment. Their first gala for the Abbotsford Hospice Society raised $50,150.

“We believe in the power of community and the difference we can make together,” said event organizer Arsh Kaler.

“Every gala contribution helps nourish young minds and bodies, empowering them to grow and thrive. We’re proud to have made a difference together – because small actions lead to big change.”

Cindy Walker, Archway manager of philanthropy, described the gala as "magnificent."

“The Smiles Through Seva Foundation board members and volunteers created a well-orchestrated, fun event that inspired giving throughout. We are so very grateful,” she said.
