SLICE OF LIFE: Rotary wine festival benefits two causes

The 18th annual Rotary Club of Abbotsford Matsqui Wine Festival and Silent Auction is set for May 26.

The event takes place at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 each and proceed go to the Abbotsford Restorative Justice and Advocacy Society and to the Holmberg House project of the Abbotsford Hospice Society.

The event features wine tasting, food, prizes and a silent auction.

Test drive

On May 26 at Yale Secondary School, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the public can drop by and test-drive a Ford vehicle.

The route is approximately a five minute drive.  If the school can get 300 test drives, the Yale Sports Academy will raise $6,000 for Heart 2 Heart, a non-profit organization that helps raise money for an orphanage and school in Haiti.  Some of the proceeds will also go to Yale.

Roller Derby

The Abbotsford Roller Derby team, The Reign Valley Vixens, have a roller derby game called Battle for Boobs taking place Saturday, May 26 at MSA Arena. Proceeds go to breast cancer research.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and game starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door. Kids 12 and under are free. Tickets are $2 off with a food bank donation.

Dinner speaker

Abbotsford After 5 Pretty Posies Dinner takes place May 28 at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $18 and dinner takes place at the ABC Restaurant, 32080 Marshall Rd.

The event features Julie Swanberg from Sweet Nothings who will present Floral Designs for the Young at Heart. Guest speaker is Patty Tyson, a communicator with a zest for living and a heart for women, will tell us “What I Know For Sure.” For reservations call Pat at 604-856-7513 or dfolson@shaw.ca.

Summer Bash

The Jubilee Community Club is holding a summer dance bash at Jubilee Hall, 7999 Bradner Rd., on June 2 at 7 p.m. (dinner at 7:45 p.m.). Jerry Doucette plus the Longriders will be performing.

These are two great bands and a buffet dinner. Enjoy a fabulous night of rockin’ blues & southern rock.

Mini retreat

All are welcome to the  Aglow Spring Mini Retreat. It takes place  June 2 at the Cascade Community Church at 35190 Delair Rd., Abbotsford.

The retreat runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The theme is Understanding the Fullness of our Identity in Christ.
