The Matsqui, Sumas, Abbotsford Pioneer Association celebrates its 73rd anniversary with a dinner and dance on Friday, May 6 at The Rancho. BLANKET TIME

The Abbotsford chapter of Blankets for Canada holds its last monthly meeting of the season on Thursday, May 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Michael’s Arts and Crafts. All are welcome to help put knitted and crocheted blankets together. Info: Nancy Gallagher at 604-504-3713.

Abbotsford’s Juvenile Diabetes Family Network meets Friday, May 6 at 7 p.m. at the HOMES office at 31581 South Fraser Way. SENIORS’ DANCES

Dances are held every Friday at the Abbotsford Seniors’ Association hall, 33889 Essendene Ave. from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Cost is $6 for members and $6.50 for guests. Bands for May are: Good Vibrations (May 6), Ben Isaac (May 13), Sweetwater (May 20) and Shirley Rodgers (May 27).

SELF-DEFENCE

All proceeds from a women’s self-defence course on Saturday, May 7 will go to relief efforts in Japan. The program runs from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 7 at Abbotsford Recreation Centre and is led by Sensei Harry Sidhu. Karate world champion Uchida Yorihisa from Japan will also be on hand. Trinity Memorial United Church (33737 Hazel St.) holds its annual plant, bake and white elephant sale on Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to noon.

MOMS’ BREAKFAST
