This is a list of just some of the activities in Abbotsford over the next week


The Abbotsford branch of the Royal Canadian Legion on West Railway Street holds a fish and chips night on Friday, May 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $10 for two pieces of fish and $8 for one. Karaoke follows from 7:30 to 11 p.m.


The Central Valley Academy of Music celebrates this year’s music festival winners at a special Honours Concert on Saturday, May 6 at 6 p.m. at Emmanuel Mennonite Church Sanctuary, 3471 Clearbrook Rd. Music will be performed with piano, violin, cello, vocal, guitar and woodwinds. Admission is free, and donations are gratefully accepted.


The Abbotsford Garden Club hosts its spring plant sale on Saturday, May 6 at Trethewey House Heritage Site, 2313 Ware St. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until all plants are sold (whichever comes first).


A Ford Drive4UR Community event takes place Saturday, May 6 at Magnuson Ford (32562 South Fraser Way) to raise funds for the Achieve Anything Foundation and The Sky’s No Limit – Girls Fly Too event. For each completed test drive, the foundation receives $20. Register at


The Abbotsford Gogos present a Spring into Summer luncheon and fashion show on Saturday, May 6 from noon to 3 p.m. at Garden Park Tower, 2825 Clearbrook Rd. The Gogos raise funds to assist and empower African grandmothers whose children have died in the AIDS epidemic and who are struggling to raise and educate their grandchildren. The Abbotsford Hospice Society holds its Hike for Hospice fundraiser on Sunday, May 7 at Mill Lake Park (off Bevan Avenue). Registration is at 10 a.m., and the walk begins at 10:30. Pledge forms and information are available at


The Scandinavian Club of the Fraser Valley meets for its monthly potluck dinner on Monday, May 8 at 6 p.m. at the Masonic Hall (corner of Gladys and Pine). This month’s theme is Finland. Up-and-coming country pop artist Kassandra Clack performs Monday, May 9 at Abbotsford Townhall (33720 South Fraser Way) from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $20 and include a burger, fries and beer; giveaways; silent auctions; and a raffle.


The Dutch Coffee Club meets Tuesday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to noon at the House of James, 2743 Emerson St.

The knitting group at Abbotsford Community Services (ACS) is looking for donated yarn. The group knits items such as toques, hats and scarves that are donated to the Warm Zone, food bank, Best for Babies and other programs.
